Some realizations

I realized last night that there is a lot to be said about incorporating goals into the little moments of everyday life instead of just the big chunks.

The important thing isn't always how you use thirty minutes or an hour, but how you spent four or five minutes here or there.

For instance, if one of your goals is to exercise every day and you're with some friends and there is some downtime while one of them gets ready or runs to do something, you can always stretch a little while waiting. If your goal is to read everyday, don't worry about it always being the same book. Pick a book off of a friend's bookshelf and leaf through it. You'll have a better idea about your friend's interests and maybe will even find a book you like.

Try to be conscious of your goals often enough that you can actively pursue them when they become available. This means thinking about them and looking at them everyday, sometimes, but also re-evaluating them and making sure they're actually still things you're interested in.

But really, it comes down to, if you're thinking about something, you're a step closer to accomplishing something positive about it, especially if you're thinking positively. The basic idea of business: put your best people working on your biggest opportunities instead of your largest problems. It comes out the same way in how your brain is handling your thoughts throughout the day: If you put in a larger effort looking at the good things instead of the problems, it's bound to work out a lot better in the end.
